PERSONAL STATEMENT
My greatest strength, both on and off the golf course, is consistency. During my Fall 2024 varsity season, my coach would often ask my teammates and me what we shot after our matches and practice rounds. When it came my turn to relay my score, he often did not need to ask. Instead, he would simply say, “AJ, 41?”—and I would nod. At that time, 41 was a number I so consistently shot that it became almost predictable. Since then, that consistency has evolved alongside my performance. Rather than regularly posting 41s over 9 holes, I now consistently shoot in the mid to high 70s over 18 holes. My current personal best is 74, recorded in Fall 2024. Now, I feel my scores have improved significantly, and my game remains reliably steady.
Before I could even imagine breaking 100, I began my golf journey around age five, playing with my grandfather. Playing nine-hole par-3 rounds with him quickly turned into a passion to learn and improve. Accordingly, over the next few years, I advanced my skills while attending camps at the Jones Golf Academy (where I now work as a junior golf instructor), West Sayville Golf Course, and the Mike Reilly Golf Academy. Additionally, I took lessons with various individuals and, most importantly, upgraded the contents of my bag repeatedly. Later, in seventh grade, I joined the JV golf team, learning from both coaches and teammates, and eventually earned a spot on the varsity team.
Off the golf course, I bring that same consistency to academics. As a hardworking, organized, and (what my friends like to call) “grandpa-like” student, I maintain a GPA just under 100. Simultaneously, I challenge myself with a rigorous course load, having taken eight AP classes thus far with plans to take four more next year. Concurrently, I involve myself in a variety of extracurricular activities, some of the most notable being Boy Scouts, Enterprise Club, Superintendent’s Council, and Debate Team. In addition, I am on track to earn the rank of Eagle Scout in Fall 2025, marking the culmination of years of dedication. While pursuing this pinnacle of scouting, I have held various leadership positions, including Quartermaster and Senior Patrol Leader–roles that reflect both my commitment, growth, and consistency.
Overall, I feel that my consistently improving performance on the course, my high level of achievement in the classroom, as well as my natural ability to lead make me uniquely well qualified to be a valuable member of any college-level golf team.
